Vehicle crash leads to child endangerment

Madera Police Department officers responded to the 600 block of South Gateway Drive for a single-vehicle collision with a car that struck a tree Friday afternoon. 

Upon arrival, officers found a young child that had been left alone in the vehicle while the driver fled the scene on foot. 

A short distance away, officers located a male matching the suspect’s description. He was identified as 37-year-old Ricardo Mejia Martinez. Mejia Martinez admitted to being the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash.
