The Matilda Torres Toros football team made a statement last week by scoring on all six possessions for a convincing 43-14 victory over Immanuel in the first round of the CIF Central Section Div. IV playoffs.
The fifth-seeded Toros scored 36 points in the first half to cruise to the victory over the 12th-seeded Immanuel Eagles. Torres gained 413 yards of total offense and held Immanuel to just 237 yards.
The Toros were led by their big two — Joseph Bass and Amani Sua — but they had help. Sua rushed for 53 yards, and caught four passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Bass rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown and also caught a couple of passes.
