Man dies in traffic accident

A failed stop at the intersection of State Route 152 and Road 16 resulted in a traffic collision that led to a fatality.

At about 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, Merced Communications Center of the California Highway Patrol received calls of a two vehicle crash.

Preliminary investigation indicated a 20-yard-old male from Chowchilla was driving a 2020 Ford Mustang northbound on Road 16, approaching a stop sign heading to State Route 152.

A 57-yard-old male from Madera was driving his 2016 Honda Civic westbound on State Route 152, approaching the Road 16 intersection.

The driver of the Ford Mustang failed to stop at the intersection and crashed into the left side of the Civic.

The driver of the Civic sustained major injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to Madera Community Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Traffic in the area was not affected. The driver of the Mustang suffered only minor injuries. The crash is still under investigation and it does not appear drugs and/or alcohol was a factor in the crash.
