For The Madera Tribune

James A. Barsotti.

Remembering the life of James A. "Jim" Barsotti, a man whose generosity and commitment to his community left an indelible mark on the city of Madera, California, and all who knew him. Born on Jan. 24, 1938, in the heart of Madera, Jim was a lifelong resident of the city he loved so dearly. It is with a heavy heart that we announce his passing on Jan.1, 2026, in Fresno, California.

Jim's journey was one of dedication, service, and joy. A proud graduate of Madera Union High School's Class of 1956, he was known for his skills on the baseball field, playing for the Coyotes, and for his musical talent in the band, where he played the trombone under the legendary Band Director Allen Harkins. His passion for learning continued at Fresno City College before he embarked on a distinguished career in the Title Insurance Industry, where he dedicated more than 30 years before retiring.

His commitment to his country was evident through his service in the California National Guard at the Madera Detachment, where he served for six years, attaining the rank of Sergeant at his discharge. Jim's service was a testament to his love for his country and his community, a trait that ran deep in the Barsotti family legacy.

Jim was a man of faith, a devout Christian who was actively involved in St. Joachim Catholic Church, The Italian Catholic Federation, and the Young Men's Institute (Y.M.I) of the Parish. His commitment to his faith was matched by his involvement in various community organizations, including The Madera Elks Lodge, The Madera Noon Lions Club, the Madera Golf and Country Club, and the Dante Club of Fresno. Jim's presence was felt in every corner of Madera, and his impact will not be forgotten.

Described by those who knew him as friendly, generous, and faith-filled, Jim's legacy is one of unwavering community spirit and kindness. He was a beacon of light in the lives of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Helen Barsotti; his beloved wife of 45 years, Donna Tognetti Barsotti; his sister, Marilyn; and his brothers, Albert, Jr. and Jerry. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his children: Steven Barsotti and his wife Kandra of Fresno, Mark Barsotti and his wife Shannon of Clovis, and Carla Williams and her husband Jason of Clovis. Jim adored his grandchildren, Derek Barsotti, Nicole Barsotti, Haley Barsotti, Chase Barsotti, Colton Williams, Peyton Barsotti, Brooke Williams, and great-granddaughter Noah and his love for them knew no bounds.

The family would like to express their appreciation and recognize Jim’s caregivers: Courtney Ferretti, Chirstina Salcedo, Rebecca Gambill, Irene Escalara, Precious Martin and the late Patsy Capistrano.
