Letters: The Olympic Games are here

I was always so eager for their return, but in the last 20 years or so, my enthusiasm for the Olympics began diminishing in direct proportion to the political statements increasing.

This year’s Paris opening ceremony hit a new low. It went beyond the typical Leftist agenda to “All hail Satan.” The mocking of The Last Supper, the giant golden bull statue so reminiscent of the golden calf idol in the Old Testament, the robotic horse and rider skimming across the water, calling to mind the Pale Rider of the Apocalypse, a bloody severed head singing merrily from a balcony. Remind me what this has to do with gymnastics or track and field?

Weren’t the Olympic Games supposed to supersede division among nations and cultures by unity through sport? Somehow, like so many other good and honest traditions, those ideas have been deemed obsolete and uninteresting.
