Itching and scratching

I may have mentioned a few times in past articles that I came from the area of our country known as the “South,” and I grew up knowing quite a few expressions that are particular to that region of the United States.

I’m not sure you can divide a southerner from the expressions we use. We don’t think about them. They are just part of our language. Most of them make perfect sense to others, but there are some expressions we have to explain.

I had a friend many years ago who was from Oklahoma. His southern expressions were different from any of the ones I knew from my childhood. We spent a lot of time together, and I wound up learning a lot of the sayings he used, and incorporated his expressions with mine.
