Coyotes win first league duel

Madera’s Ricardo Rios puts his 215 opponent into a pinning position during Wednesday’s Country/Metro Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

After the Sanger Apaches tied the duel match at nine, the Madera Coyotes wrestling team didn’t lose a match the rest of the way to record a 48-9 County/Metro Athletic Conference victory.

Sanger came back to tie the match, but the Coyotes won nine straight matches to pick up an easy victory Wednesday in Joe Flores Gym.

“Some of these guys haven’t wrestled in two weeks,” head coach Joe Romine said. “I haven’t seen Sanger that much so I didn’t have a good scouting report. I just know a good part of our line-up are the uppers and lowers, so when it wraps around, I know it’s coming.”
