Assemblywoman helps young legislators

Civic leaders stand with Assembly District 27 Young Legislators Program participants in the Madera County Board of Supervisors Chambers during a session last week.

Assemblywoman Esneralda Soria established the Assembly District 27 Young Legislators Program to provide young people in her district the opportunity to have a front-row seat in learning about public policy and government.

This is a 6-month program and students meet once a month to learn about specific issues and topics affecting the district and state. The goal is that they will gain leadership skills and a solid foundation about the California legislative process. At the end of the program, the Young Legislators will have a trip to the State Capitol here in Sacramento, where they will directly interact with legislators and legislative staff.

Last week, the youths experienced Justice Day. The Young Legislators learned about public safety and service from community leaders. This session was hosted at the Madera County Board of Supervisors Chambers.
