Chowchilla schedules community events
Chowchilla has planned free entertainment events from June 21 through July 7, according to D. Martin Piepenbrok, director of recreation and community engagement.
These events will include music in the park, outdoor movies and a fireworks show.
Live music will fill the air in downtown Chowchilla this summer as the City of Chowchilla presents the “Music in the Park” Concert Series. The free shows will be presented at Veterans Memorial Park on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9 p.m. beginning June 21. Performances will be presented on the on the new Barragan Family Performance Stage.
Veterans Memorial Park is on Robertson Boulevard at 6th Street in downtown Chowchilla. Be sure to bring folding chairs and blankets, maybe a picnic meal, and enjoy wonderful evenings of music, singing, and yes, likely some dancing too, Piepenbrok said.
The concert series will be presented by the City of Chowchilla and major sponsors PG&E and the Madera County Arts Council.

Plan to be in downtown Chowchilla every Friday night this July as the City of Chowchilla presents free family-oriented movies that will delight audiences of all ages, starting July 6.
Showtime starts at sunset at Veterans Memorial Park.
Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and sleeping bags, Piepenbrok said. The movies are shown on a large inflatable screen with full sound. Local community groups will be selling refreshments at each of the movie nights.
The movie series is presented by the City of Chowchilla along with PG&E and the Madera County Arts Council.

The free Chowchilla Lions Club fireworks show is scheduled for Saturday, July 7, to light up the sky over the Chowchilla Fairgrounds
Gates to the fairgrounds will open to the public at 7 p.m.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase from the Chowchilla Lions Club concession stand. The Lions Club Beer Garden will also be open and serving for the evening event.
Fireworks will start going off after dark, sometime around 9 p.m.
The event is presented by the Chowchilla Lions Club, along with the Chowchilla Fairgrounds, with support provided by the City of Chowchilla Public Works, fire and police departments.
