Madera Police searching for burglar caught on camera

For The Madera Tribune Photos of a suspect in a burglary at GNC were captured on a security camera. Those with information on the case are encouraged to call the Madera Police Department at 675-4200.

Police are searching for the suspect in a brazen burglary that occurred at a vitamin store in Madera. The robbery was carried out at the GNC store at 2185 W. Cleveland Ave. at roughly 6 a.m. on Sunday, according to Madera Police Sgt. Thomas Burns.

The suspect reportedly broke the glass door to get in, making off with stolen merchandise from the store. According to Burns, the suspect was confronted by a security guard, who took pictures with the camera on his cell phone of him, and the silver Dodge pickup truck that he was using. The suspect then drove off before the police arrived.

While the reason is unknown as to why the suspect chose to steal from a GNC, Burns has suggested that this may be for the purpose of selling the merchandise or using the vitamins and supplements for himself.

“The only thing I can think of, vitamins and supplements are getting more and more expensive,” Burns said. “There’s nothing that’s prescription-grade, or anything like that in a GNC store, so the only thing I can think of is they are either using them personally, or they plan to turn around and sell them at a 100 percent profit for them.”

An inventory on what’s been taken from the store has not been released to law enforcement, and the value in supplements taken is currently unknown.

Those with information on the case are encouraged to call the Madera Police Department at 675-4200.
