Letters: Cesar Chavez Day
Holiday was granted for Cesar Chavez. He has been discovered for what he was. Now, to whitewash the “holiday,” they are going to re-name it. Why not eliminate the holiday? This is why we need just three holidays: Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day. Then, personal days off. Fifteen days off. You can take them in a string (vacation) or split them up for who ever you want to honor.

Chavez decried ‘Wetbacks’
Lamented ‘illegal immigrant Mexicans’ Opponents of illegal immigration recently discovered that they had support for a long time from an unexpected source. Recently released interviews with iconic union organizer Cesar Chavez have revealed that the founder of the United Farm Workers vigorously opposed immigrants who left their homes in Mexico and entered the United States illegally to labor in agriculture. In a 1974 interview, which was aired on YouTube last week, Chavez la

Caterina’s decision to go to America was perhaps made easier by the fact that her sister, Costanza, had immi

Opinion: Women computer pioneers
As Women’s History Month comes to an end, I’d like to recognize two women who were developing the modern computer long before most Americans even knew about the electronic device. Their contributions, one in the mid-19th century and the other a hundred years later in the mid-20th century, introduced novel ways of solving problems. Although they lived a century apart, both women helped to guide the development of the computers that we use every day. Ada Lovelace Augusta Ada Ki

Crosses everywhere
It is amazing how many signs of God’s blessings are available to us. Every day we experience miracles, if we only pay attention to recognize them. Yesterday I was driving away from a visit to the Madera post office. As I was making a turn, out of the corner of my eye I saw a cross. Fully half of the one-hour service is the chanted Passion according to John, proclaiming the passion narrative of Jesus, chapters 1
