More than 300 people attended last year’s athletics dinner/dance. Almost double that number is expected at this year’s dinner/dance on Oct. 7 at Madera Glass and Body Shop.

Madera Glass and Body Shop will be giving to both Madera and Madera South high schools after their third annual Athletics Dinner/Dance to support high school athletics.

The dinner will be Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at Madera Glass and Body Shop, 105 E. Central Ave. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and dancing starts at 9 p.m. until “when it’s done,” coordinator Dustin Pipes said.

Chase’s Chop Shop will prepare the tri-tip and chicken and Madera Glass will also provide other items for the dinner.

Previous dinners have been aimed at four or five specific sports and this year, the dinner/dance will support baseball, softball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls soccer and cheer.

“The main thing for us is to help out the student-athletes,” Pipes said. “We come from a sports background so we know how much money it takes toplay these sports. As a local business, we want to help out as much as you can.”

Pipes said the dinner/dance raised $18,000 last year and expects more his year. Last year, 300 people attended the dinner and Pipes said that ticket sales are on track to double that number.

“All of the proceeds goes to the school,” Pipes said. “Every penny goes to each of the sports.”

There will be a silent auction and a live dessert auction. Each sports raises money through the auctions and through ticket sales.

“It’s something we plan to grow throughout theyears and we don’t plan on stopping any time soon,” Pipes said.

Pipes said there is one more cycle of sports and then it will rotate back to where it started.

Tickets for $30 each can be purchased from team members of the sports or by calling Madera Glass and Body Shop at 674-8559.
