The Young Ladies’ Grand Institute (YLGI), a faith-based organization promoting sisterhood through service, spiritual growth, and support for the Catholic community, recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of its Madera chapter.

The YLGI organization was founded on Sept. 5, 1887, in San Francisco by three women who were inspired to assist a sick friend with tuberculosis, helping her with prayer, food, and household chores. The Madera Institute, known as the Young Ladies’ Institute (YLI), was officially established on June 14, 1925.

A luncheon was held Saturday at Saint Joachim School’s cafeteria to celebrate the milestone. The event featured live music by Saint Joachim graduate Paul Aleman, the initiation of three new members, and a presentation of a $500 gift to Nadine Dudley.
