Woman killed in alleged DUI crash
A 25-year-old woman from Madera was killed in a multi-vehicle traffic collision on north bound State Route 99 just north of Avenue 7 when she lost control, drifted into the center divide, over corrected and careened back across both lanes of moving traffic into the side of a semi truck and trailer, and then was hit by several other cars.
The collision is under investigation as a DUI, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision happened early Friday morning in light traffic, according to officers.
Following the collision with the semi truck and trailer, the Chevy spun and ended up moving south bound directly into northbound oncoming traffic. No other injuries were reported in the five car pile up.
Authorities have identified the woman as Guadalupe Ruiz. She was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The five car collision snarled traffic on northbound SR 99 for several hours as emergency personnel worked to investigate and clear the scene. Roadway conditions were clear and cool at the time of the crash. Toxicology reports are pending.
