Matilda Torres’ Jose Soriano threw for a carer high 368 yards in Friday’s win over Shafter. He threw three touchdowns and threw the game-winning pass for the conversion.

The last time the Matilda Torres Toros football team was in this situation, they didn’t come through a fell one game short of the Central Section championship game.

This time, the Toros got the two-point conversion they needed to defeat the Shafter Generals, 43-42, Friday night in the Div. IV semifinal game. However, it came with some controversy.

“We are obviously excited to be in the final,” head coach Joseph Marquez said. “All of our focus is preparing this week and put the best effort we can on Friday.”
