Matilda Torres’ J’Lynn Mitchell (23) rises up to send a kill attempt past the Madera South blocks of Maria Hernandez (14) and Ariel Aguirre (7) during Tuesday’s match.
After easily winning the first set over the Madera South Stallions, the Matilda Torres Toros girls volleyball team had to battle and outlast the Stallions to close out the match with two more set wins.
The Toros easily beat the Stallions, 25-9, in the first set. However, the Stallions battled in the final two sets with the Toros besting the Stallions 25-19 in the second set and going a little longer for a 27-25 victory in the third set for the sweep Tuesday.
The Toros had the numbers advantage, but had trouble closing out the Stallions. The Toros recorded 17 aces compared to seven by the Stallions. They also put down 29 kills while the Stallions had 21.
