Heading into the North Yosemite League opener, Matilda Torres Toros girls basketball head coach Jose Villalobos knew his team had a tough task ahead of them against reigning champions, Roosevelt.

However, he knew his team had the ability to unseat the reigning champions, who have won the last few NYL championships.

“We knew we had Roosevelt first in league, and we talked to the team about the games last year,” Villalobos said. “We’ve competed with some good teams this year. We’ve beat teams that have beaten them, so we knew it was going to be a good game.”
