Torres’ Trinity Anderson reaches up for a kill attempt during Tuesday’s three-set sweep over Fowler in the Div. IV Central Section semifinals. She led the Toros with 13 kills.
The Matilda Torres Toros girls volleyball team culminated a five-year building process to advance to the Central Section Div. VI Championship match after a three-set sweep Tuesday over the Fowler Redcats.
The Toros battled through the first two sets, 25-20, 25-23, before cruising to a 25-10 win in the third set to advance to the program’s first Central Section championship match.
“It means a lot,” head coach Adam Horner, who started the program five years ago. “We came from the bottom to where we are now. It’s incredible with the growth of the team and the program. The school has been amazing and I’m just so proud of the girls. They worked really hard.”
