Madera South’s Yamileth Castaneda tries to get an attack past the block of Torres’ J’Lynn Mitchell during last week’s five-set victory.

The Matilda Torres Toros went into last Thursdays match with the Madera South Stallions riding a high, while the Stallions had just won two straight matches.

Something had to give in the first match of the second half of the North Yosemite League season. The Toros went unbeaten in the first half of the NYL season. In fact, they hadn’t lost a set. Meanwhile, the Stallions seemed to have found something and won their previous two matches.

On Thursday, the Stallions quickly gave the Toros their first set loss, and then picked up a thrilling five-set match win for their third straight victory. Madera South defeated Central last Friday for a four-game winning streak.
