Stallions hold off Toros

Madera South’s Xavier Cantu makes sure to touch home plate after hitting a three-run home run Tuesday during an 8-6 victory over Matilda Torres at Eddie Chapa Field.

The Madera South Stallions scored three runs in the first and fifth innings and it was just enough to hold off the Matilda Torres Toros for an 8-6 baseball victory at Eddie Chapa Field.

The Toros went into the game as the home team playing at Madera South because their field is being worked on in conjunction with their football stadium. They had a chance to win it at the end with the winning run on base, but a strikeout ended the game.

The Toros outhit the Stallions 13-6 and left 13 runners on base compared to just three for the Stallions. However, the Stallions drew seven walks compared to three for the Toros, and that proved to be the difference in the game.
