Madera South’s Isabella Zaragosa blocks a Chowchilla attack during Tuesday’s season opener. Zaragosa led the Stallions with nine kills.

The young Madera South Stallions girls volleyball team had a tough task in its season opener with the perennial Northwest Sequoia Conference frontrunner, Chowchilla Tribe.

The Stallions, who only return one starter from last year’s team had some bright spots, but couldn’t hang with the Tribe.

Defensive mistakes hurt Madera South, especially on serve receive. Chowchilla served up 17 aces in the three-set sweep Tuesday at Madera South.
