Soccer team makes college history
For The Madera Tribune
The Madera Community College Mountain Lions’ women’s soccer team made history last week by recording the school’s first-ever athletic victory, in its first-ever athletic contest, with a 2-1 victory over Modesto Junior College last week. The team will play its first-ever home match on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Cuesta College.
It took just one game for the Madera Community College women’s soccer team to make history.
After a 2-1 win last Saturday over Modesto Junior College, the Mountain Lions recorded the college’s first-ever athletic victory in their first-ever athletic contest.
“Arriving in Modesto, we already knew they weren’t thinking we’d be much of a threat being a first-year program, as no team or staff was on sight when we arrived to MJC campus,” head coach Jerry Stupar said. “To their surprise, 27 girls walked in two lines to the opposing bench and started pre-game warmup before Modesto even had their cleats on at their home field.”
