Relay For Life, for life

One of the most important events of the year in our community of Madera, is Relay For Life. Of course, as happened with many events, Relay For Life was put on hold during 2020, and for the year 2021, the event was fully virtual.

This year, Relay For Life is back, and the event is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, with the closing ceremonies on May 1, at Town and Country Park. This event benefits the American Cancer Society, and is a fundraiser for cancer research. Each year (pre-pandemic), cancer survivors have had a special walk together for the event. These survivors deserve to be honored for their fight against the very vicious and deadly disease of cancer.

The kickoff for the event will be held virtually on Saturday, March 26, at noon, just as it was held in 2021. There will be drawings, much like was held in years past at Central Valley Community Bank in Madera. Please go onto their Facebook page at Relay For Life of Madera to see what is available to win.

Denise Burns is one very dedicated warrior in getting people to donate $10 for a luminaria for Relay For Life. Each bag will be decorated with a name that honors either a cancer survivor or someone who has lost his or her life to cancer. These luminaria will decorate the walkways in such a beautiful and meaningful way. If you need help locating Denise, email me at nancys@maderatribune.net. I will be sure she will give you the opportunity to purchase some luminaria to honor you or your loved ones. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

Last year, the luminaria decorated the walkways of Madera United Methodist Church. The display was breath-taking, and a picture can be found on the Relay For Life of Madera Facebook page.

Remember to keep this event in your prayers and in your heart. This is a very good cause, and our beautiful community of Madera has been awesome in supporting it throughout the years.

My love to all,
