Opinion: It’s lessened, but it’s still drought

On January 12, the U.S. Drought Monitor issued a report, stating that “California’s drought has eased significantly.” It further reported that now only 46 percent of the state is in severe drought. A week prior, it was 71 percent, and on Dec. 6, 2022, it was 85 percent.

But, don’t be misled.

California has been in a state of drought for many decades. Occasionally, the severity has been eased by one or more rainy seasons, but drought is the “natural” condition of the state.
