Obituary: Julie Marlin Sambueso

For The Madera Tribune

Julie Marlin Sambueso.

On Saturday, March 9, 2024, Julie Marlin Sambueso, a loving, witty, and sarcastic wife, mother of two children, two granddaughters, and various pets passed away at the age of 80 after sustaining injuries from a stroke.

Julie was born on Nov. 24, 1943, in Madera, CA, to Marlin and Lucille Young. Julie attended Madera High School, and in accordance with her self-deprecating humor, reported she “didn’t learn much but was a great make-out.” She moved to Fresno for a year and attended Fresno City College. She was “only asked out by one guy” so she came back to Madera and married Augustine “Dim” Sambueso on Aug. 3, 1963. And she never left… she really never left. Together they raised one son, Derek, and one daughter, Allison.

Those signature long, painted nails vigorously typed their way across various secretarial jobs at title companies and real estate offices, and as a legal secretary. She enjoyed the people she met along the way, but mostly enjoyed coming home to her family and pets. She was an excellent cook and always had dinner on the table nightly so her family could eat together and catch up/complain about the day. She could tell you what every candy was in a box of See’s chocolates and loved the Bordeaux. Julie enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner, “YouTubes” videos of soldiers coming home to their pets, gambling at Table Mountain, a tidy home, Spellbound perfume, the covers pulled up to her chin in bed, and pizza with extra cheese. Although she never recovered from the death of her husband and son, her sense of humor remained intact to the very end.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dim, and son Derek. She is survived by her daughter, Allison Cole, son-in-law, Ted Cole, and her granddaughters, Hannah and Avery, as well as her brother Don Young of Turlock.

Julie will be laid to rest next to Dim and Derek at a private family service. Donations may be made in her honor to Friends of Madera Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 923, Madera, CA 93639.
