Donald Gene Tischmacher.

Donald Gene Tischmacher, 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 21, 2026.

Don was born on Feb. 6, 1948, in Madera, California, to Jewel and George Tischmacher. He was the eighth of ten children. He was a proud graduate of Madera High School, Class of 1966.

On June 29, 1968, Don married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Hernandez. Shortly after their marriage, he was drafted into the United States Army in October 1968 during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Italy, where he served in nuclear demolitions and weaponry.

Upon returning home, Don began a long and successful career with Baltimore Aircoil Company. A dedicated employee for 35 years, he was known for his loyalty and strong work ethic.

Don was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mildred; his daughter, Gina Beyer (Andy); his son, Brian Tischmacher (Stephanie); and his cherished grandchildren, Madisyn Beyer, McKenna Deniz (Spencer), Jess Tischmacher (Autumn), and Logan Tischmacher. He was also blessed with great-granddaughters Lexi, Kylie, and Aubree Deniz. In addition, he is survived by his bonus son, Darin Batty, and grandchildren McKayla and Luke Batty, as well as his sisters, Ella McCain and Beverly Dover.

He also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews who will miss their “Uncle Donnie” dearly.

The role of “Papa” was one he cherished deeply. He never missed a horse show, volleyball match, or baseball game — his grandchildren always knew Papa would be in the stands. His strong relationships with them ensured their lives were filled with laughter, adventure, and memories to last a lifetime.

Known as an avid outdoorsman, Don found great joy in life’s simple pleasures, including hunting, camping, fishing, and four-wheeling. He also had a passion for golf and a deep devotion to his San Francisco 49ers. Many fond memories were made during motorhome trips to the Bay Area to watch the 49ers dominate the NFL in the 1980s.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Hinds Hospice for their compassionate care during Don’s final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hinds Hospice, 2490 W. Shaw Ave, #101, Fresno, CA 93711, or to a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church, 2300 Sunset Avenue, Madera, California.
