For The Madera Tribune

First place Dixieland Elementary sixth grade mathletes work out a problem during Madera Unified School District’s Mathletics competition last month.

More than 100 Madera Unified sixth-grade students competed in the 17th annual Mathletics competition held at Thomas Jefferson Middle School on May 31.

The Elementary Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment department, along with the District Academic Coaches, facilitated the four events: Group Problem Solving, Power Pack (individual event), Mathematics Relay (team event), and a whole team “Big Problem.”

Student teams worked with a site designated coach who helped to prepare students for the events. Awards were earned for both individual events and overall top scorers.
