Missing community stores

As we see the “big box” chain stores go out of business, it makes me wonder if the big corporate businesses were ever a good idea. Over the years, we have seen these big chains swallow up the little community stores, and it appeared they were bigger, stronger, and would last longer than these little guys they put out of business.
Now, it seems that Rite Aid is going belly-up, and we are now scrambling to find out where we will transfer our prescriptions. Will I send them to another “big box” pharmacy? There are a few others in town.
We used to call them “Drugstores.” I think it is because that’s where you went to get medications. We didn’t go there to get lawn furniture or picture frames, like now. Maybe the word “pharmacy” instead of “drugstore” enlarges the scope of what the store can carry.
