Madera softball teams advance to title games

Both the Matilda Torres Toros and the Liberty Hawks softball team entered Thursday and Friday’s semifinal games as the underdogs. 

However, both teams pulled out upset victories to earn a berth in the Central Section championship games at Margie Wright Stadium at Fresno State. 

Torres had an easy time with 11 runs in the third and fourth innings to record a dominant victory over top-seeded Kern Valley on Thursday. The fifth-seeded Toros host 10th seed Roosevelt, who was an 8-3 upset victory over No. 3 Strathmore in the semifinals, at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
