Madera CHP takes a suspect into custody. Originally, the suspect was arrested on DUI, but during a search of his vehicle, officers found nitrous oxide tanks and illegal fireworks.
A DUI arrest in Madera led officers to the discovery of nitrous oxide tanks, believed to be used for inhalation purposes, and illegal fireworks inside the vehicle Tuesday evening.
While impaired driving alone puts lives at risk, illegal fireworks create an additional danger for our community.
Illegal fireworks can cause serious injuries, start devastating fires, damage property, and place first responders at risk. With dry conditions throughout Madera County, it only takes one spark to cause a tragedy.
The fireworks were turned over to CAL FIRE for proper disposal.
The CHP reminds residents as we approach the holiday season, celebrate responsibly:
• Leave fireworks to the professionals
• Never drive under the influence
• Report illegal fireworks activity to local authorities
• Help keep our neighborhoods safe
One bad decision can have life-changing consequences. Protect family, neighbors, and the community by making safe and responsible choices.
