Do you like your name?

A few months ago I was making a purchase at one of our local stores. As the cashier was checking out my goods, I noticed her name was Nancy, so I told her that is my name, too. She asked, “Do you like your name?”

I thought it was an odd question for her to ask. It almost seemed as if she knew my story. I responded, “Yes, I do like my name, but when I was a kid, I did not like it.”

She said, “I didn’t like my name when I was young, either. But now I do.” We laughed together, as if we had just bonded.
