Madera’s Joel Arellano (13) celebrates with Aden Lechuga (11) after Arellano hit his second home run of the day on Tuesday. He drove in six runs in a 10-6 victory over Clovis North.

The Madera Coyotes baseball team put 10 runs on the scoreboard in the season opener to defeat the Clovis North Broncos for the first time.

The Coyotes scored six runs in the third inning before the 20-mile-and-an-hour wins started to blow through Mel Parker Field on Tuesday for a 10-6 victory in the season opener and in the opener of the Central Baseball Tournament.

“It was fantastic,” head coach Andy Underwood said. “It was the first time we’ve beaten Clovis North. That was a big win for us. The conditions didn’t help with our defense. It didn’t help for both sides. It was tough.”
