Madera blockers Jason Valladares (12) and Abel Perez (8) get their hands on an Edison attack during Thursday’s loss.

With a group lacking a senior, the Madera Coyotes boys volleyball team is taking its lumps this year, but are keeping things close.

The Coyotes picked up a set in a 3-1 loss to the Edison Tigers on Thursday in Joe Flores Gym.

Sammy McDonald led the Coyotes with 16 kills while Marco Gomez added 14. Gabriel Carrera had six kills and Emilio Torres had five more.
