To say that Lisa Jackson is a prolific writer is an understatement. She has 15 million books in print in nine languages. She has published 75 novels and is a “New York Times Bestselling Author.” So, I picked up a copy of “Left to Die” (2008, 496 pages in paperback format).

This book, the first in Regan Pescoli/Selena Alvarez series, is set in Grizzly Falls, Montana, during a blizzard the likes of which can only be known in Montana. In blindingly cold wind and heavy falling snow, a woman is found, tied to a tree. She is naked and has frozen to death. Above her head is tacked a note with some alphabet letters and above that the killer has carved a star.

Unfortunately, she is only the first such human sacrifice to be found. Each new corpse is discovered in the same condition, but each time a new pair of letters has been added to the note, and the position of the star has been changed. Detectives Pescoli and Alvarez work day and night trying to find out what ties the women and clues together.
