All-Tribune Girls Soccer Team

Wendy Alexander/The Madera Tribune

Madera South junior Aliah Avila works the ball around a defender during County/Metro Athletic Conference play. The All-CMAC First Teamer lived up to expectations this year and is The Madera Tribune’s Most Valuable Player.

The Madera Tribune has been publishing The All-Tribune teams for the past 10 years. While the other teams are put together, this reporter’s worst sport to judge is soccer. It would not be respectful to the players or coaches to think this reporter can understand the game. Thus, we have put together a team based on All-League status and invited their coaches to give a brief statement about them. Madera is written by head coach Cynthia Moreno, Madera South by head coach Ramon Delgadillo and Liberty by head coach Erick Walker.

Most Valuable Player

Aliah Avila

Junior Madera South, All-League: County/Metro Athletic Conference 1st Team

“Aliah had the most assist on the team and was second for most goals and was an important part of the process this season, especially when we won the McLane tournament” Avila broke onto the scene as a freshman and not even the COVID-19 pandemic could slow her down. She was dynamic on the outside and clutch when her team needed a goal. She is a three-time All-Tribune selection.

The Team

Brianna Maciel

Senior Madera South , All-League: CMAC 2nd Team

“Brianna was the leading scorer and second on assist. She played awesome all season and helped us win the MSHS tournament. She is a great leader.” Maciel is a three-time All-Tribune selection.

Autumn Moreno

Senior Madera South, All-League: CMAC 2nd Team

“Autumn started playing outside midfielder and was playing well, but we needed her as a center back and she played a great season. She was my best defender” Moreno is also a three-time all-Tribune selection.

America Vasquez

Senior Madera South, All-League: CMAC Honorable Mention

“America was my outstanding defender this year. She was an important part of our defensive season.”

Hazel Iniguez

Soph. Madera South, All-League: CMAC Honorable Mention

“Hazel was a very important part of our attack. She started scoring important goals when we needed them, and she was just getting better throughout the season”

Melani Rinder

Senior Madera South, All-League: CMAC Honorable Mention

“Melani Rinder was an outstanding keeper this year. She made great saves to keeping us close to tie games or end up with a win.

Adela Alvarez

Senior Madera, All-League: CMAC 1st Team

“Three-year varsity player. She ended the season with six goals and eight assists. Adela has a passion for the game and will be missed. Not many can lead the team from the front like her. She has a playful personality and makes showing up fun.” Alvarez is a three-time All-Tribune selection.

Jazzell Ruiz

Junior Madera, All-League: CMAC 1st Team

“She is a caption and three-year varsity player. Jazzell led the team in goals with 16. She has tremendous drive and is a competitor. She leads by example and speaks up when called upon to take charge.” Ruiz earned an All-Tribune selection in 2020.

Sheyla Posos

Senior Madera, All-League: CMAC 2nd Team

“Sheyla is a three-year varsity player. She is willing to do whatever necessary to help her team. She is critical of herself which allows her to make improvements where others repeat their mistakes.”

Atiana Piñon

Junior Madera, All-League: CMAC 2nd Team

“Atiana is selfless. She will create moments for others to have success at the detriment of her own. She is a winner. She led the team in assists this season with 12 and also had 12 goals.”

Madison Barba

Senior Madera, All-League: CMAC 2nd Team

“Madison was a leader, both on and off the field. Maddie will run through a wall for her teammates and will never quit. She’s coachable and is everything a coach wants out of their athletes.” She was last season’s Madera Tribune girls soccer Defensive Player of the Year.

Layla Martinez

Sophomore Madera, All-League: CMAC Honorable Mention

“Layla is a fighter and never gives up. She works hard no matter the circumstances and pushes herself to the limit. Layla ended her first varsity season with four goals and five assists.”

Samantha Ruiz

Senior Madera, All-League: CMAC Honorable Mention

“Samantha is a senior caption and three-year varsity player. Sam has undeniable focus, on and off the field. She works tirelessly to improve herself and has set clear goals that I believe she will achieve.” Ruiz is a two-time All-Tribune selection.

Kinsey McIntosh

Sophomore Liberty, All-League: North Sequoia League 1st Team

“Our go-to player. Captain as a sophomore. Kinsey is a game changer. Throughout preseason and league, she was usually double marked. She puts pressure on opposing defenders when she’s up top, hoping to create mistakes. Led the team in goals (15), double what anyone else had. Also led the team in assists (7). When we needed her to, she would also play midfield, which unfortunately would lose some of our pressure up top.” McIntosh is a two-time All-Tribune selection.

Nevaeh Moncada

Sophomore Liberty, All-League: NSL 1st Team

“Nevaeh played for us sparingly last spring as we were set in defenders. This year, we placed her back there from the start and never looked back. Smallest girl on the team, but wins headers. Has the biggest heart. Gives 100 percent every play, even when she’s tired. Smart with the ball and reads the game very well."

Hailey Bugg

Junior Liberty, All-League: NSL 1st Team

“Started a bit slow in the beginning of the season after coming from cross country, but came along during late preseason and league. There were a few games we missed her and it showed in the middle. Plays under control, makes some great through passes. Gives 100 percent all game long.”

Jenna Rodribuez

Senior Liberty, All-League: NSL Defender of the Year, 2nd Team

“Jenna had a pretty good year. Played the whole season with an injured quad that is still bothering her. Jenna keeps her speed under wraps. Probably the fastest on the team. Plays under control. Very smooth in her play.”

Devinne Moncada

Junior Liberty, All-League: NSL 2nd Team

“Devinne played up top for us the past two years. This year, during tryouts, I saw her chase down a player from 30 yards behind. We put her in the back and never regretted it. She gave it all. She has a great left foot and is able to bring up some attack and play the ball forward.”

Ashley Torres

Junior Liberty, All-League: NSL 2nd Team

“A very versatile, hard working player. She would play wherever we would need her, but played mostly up top on the left. Had to commute to training everyday as she was online. Has improved each year she’s been on the team. Always puts the team first. Asked her to go play defense in one game (jokingly), and she said she said she would. She didn’t think she would do well, but said she would try if we needed her to.

Emily Boatwright

Junior Liberty, All-League: NSL 2nd Team

“First year playing Varsity. Hasn’t played since her freshman year on JV. Made huge saves this year in big games. Kept us in games. Takes everything we tell her and applies it in trainings and games. And not afraid to ask questions for better understanding.”
