Firefighters assess the damage to a garage after a fire broke out at a home on Granada drive. The fire, that displaced a family living in the house, is currently under investigation.

A fast-moving, early morning fire in a garage displaced a family of four in the 500 block of Granada Drive, according to CalFire authorities.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire began inside the garage and rapidly burned through it. Two vehicles were also destroyed and an adjacent shared fence was damaged.

Battalion Chief Anthony Garcia said no working smoke detectors were found inside the older 1,500-square-foot house but the family reportedly smelled smoke about 5:25 the morning of July 3 and managed to exit the house without injury.

“It was a good stop (by firefighters.) We were able to contain the fire to the garage, with little fire or smoke damage to contents inside the house. Other structures were threatened but not damaged. The cause of the fire is still under investigation."

Madera Police and PG&E were also at the scene.

Both sides of Granada were blocked for a time.

The family escaped the fire with their pets. However one cat was still missing.” Garcia said.
