SWAT helps catch murder suspect

A 23-year-old man alleged to have committed a homicide recently in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was tracked by the U.S. Marshal’s Office to a home in the 700 block of Hacienda Street in Madera.
Madera police Sgt. Mark Trukki said Victor Manual Cintron was believed to be armed and dangerous, but surrendered without incident.
He was taken into custody Monday after about an hour of negotiations with SWAT negotiators and U.S. marshals, as the joint regional SWAT task force composed of officers from the Madera Police Department, the Madera County Sheriff’s Department, Chowchilla Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol stood by in case the suspect fought, fled or opened fire from the house.
Cintron was booked into the Madera County jail, where he is awaiting extradition to Milwaukee.
The incident prompted police to close and cordon off a large area of the subdivision near Knox Street and Almond Avenue last Monday for residents’ safety as the large group of about 50 law enforcement officers, fire department and emergency medical services prepared to respond to any reaction of the fugitive who was believed to be armed.
Nearby residents were asked to shelter in place and those that had left the area were asked to remain outside the perimeter during the incident for their own safety.
“Based on tips from Milwaukee, the U.S. marshals came up with Madera as an area, and after surveillance, watching a vehicle leave the home ... stopping that vehicle, it was determined he (Cintron) was in the home alone at that time. A warrant was issued and we got involved. It was truly a joint effort,” Trukki said. “No shots were fired, and no one was injured.”
It was not known what connections had brought the fugitive to be hiding out in Madera, Trukki said, and the investigation into the local connections and local incident is ongoing. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Madera Police detectives at 675-4220.
