Fresno Pacific University hosted its annual Honors Banquet with several student-athletes garnering recognition.
The university has held the event since 2012, and it is designed to honor juniors and seniors who have excelled academically in their respective majors.
Former Madera South cross country and track standout Jonnie Montano was one of the selected student-athletes during the April 25 ceremony. She is a junior pursuing a degree in humanities representing the Sunbirds’ cross counry and track team.
“We want our student-athletes to be as successful in the classroom as they are in athletic competitions, so we are very proud of this group,” Director of Athletics Aaron Henderson said. “The fact that so many students representing our department are being recognized across such a wide variety of academic fields is exciting, and I hope to see them continue to excel in every endeavor.”
In all, 16 student-athletes representing nine of FPU’s athletic programs were recognized.
