Some 200 people turned out Saturday morning to attend the kickoff event for Love Madera, the annual occasion during which participants gather to improve their city by cleaning it up, focusing on public spaces such as parks and the Fresno River banks, public safety and religious expression, along with helping homeless people.
The larger group broke into smaller groups, which went to various locations in the city to do the work they had volunteered to do.
April Molina, who has worked to help the homeless in the past, was chair of this year’s event.
