Letter: STEM students spend time with Air National Guard

On Friday, Feb. 22, the Fresno Air National Guard Base, home of the 144th Fighter Wing, hosted Sherman Thomas STEM Academy for a packed, two-hour field trip.

The day was organized by seventh grade student, Emily Lopez’s, father, Sgt. Ryan Lopez.

Students were able to witness four aircraft launches of the F-15C Eagle. They also received a tour of the fire station, hangar, and weapons shop.

At each station they were able to hear a career talk, showcasing the many employment opportunities within the military.

A highlight for the robotics team was they each got to drive the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) robot!

Students could not stop talking about all they saw and did.

Thank you to everyone at the base who took time out of their day to share with the students, and thank you to our military for all they do on a day-in and day-out basis.

Too often a thankless job that we take for granted. We appreciate you!
