Boy, 17, arrested after YHS lockdown

A disgruntled male student at Yosemite High School was arrested Friday about 1 p.m. after school staff reported to resource Deputy Melanie Hopper that the boy might have been armed.

The school was locked down while Hopper and other deputies investigated, according to Madera County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kayla Serratto.

Hopper, and other deputies who responded, spotted the boy and chased him on foot, even after he left the campus.

He led deputies on a chase through surrounding neighborhoods before he was eventually detained.

A homemade bow and arrow were found, and investigators were looking for another weapon.

The 17-year-old’s name was not released. He was arrested and booked into the Madera County Corrections Facility.
