Coyotes sweep by Knights to stay unbeaten in CMAC
The Madera Coyotes girls volleyball team extended its league unbeaten run to three matches with a sweep over the Bullard-Fresno Knights in Joe Flores Gym.
The Coyotes recorded a 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 match win Tuesday night to run its County/Metro Athletic Conference winning streak to 15 matches dating to 2016, including the first three this season.
“We told them they have a target on their backs,” head coach Meghan Haas said. “We’re setting a precedence. Teams are wanting to beat us. We can’t take anything for granted and expect they are going to have a game plan to capitalize on our weaknesses. We have to be creative to try to score.”
Isabella Saucedo led the Coyotes with 13 kills to go with five aces. Lilly Ascencio also had 10 kills to go with 12 digs.
After a slow start, Haas said her team settled down and, basically, controlled the match.
“We started off slow in serve receive,” she said. “We started to relax and regroup. We handled the ball and started to get in control. We did a really good job of executing the gameplan.”
Haas and the Coyotes know teams are starting to put a target on their backs because of the success Madera has had over the past two seasons.
“We’re a totaly different team than last year,” Haas said. “We’re taking it match by match. In the beginning, it was like who was going to have a good night. we have to make sure we have to take care of business on our end.”
