An annual 5K walk-and-run event to raise funds for and call attention to Madera Special Needs Sports and Recreation has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 13, at Lions Town and Country Park.

The event is a collaboration with Madera Parks and Community Services, Galaxy Dance Academy and Madera National Little League.

Madera Special Needs Sports and Recreation plans to play host for a resource fair at the event in which various community agencies from Madera and Fresno County will provide information about their services for children with special needs.

Madera Special Needs Sports and Recreation was founded in 2014 by a group of parents who have children in the communities of Fresno, Selma, Kerman, and Chowchilla, and Oakhurst with special needs. The organization has grown to serve some 60 children, ranging from 4 to 22 years old.
