State tournament begins play Friday

The Central California Babe Ruth State Tournament returns to Madera for the 14-year-old All-Stars beginning Friday in Mel Parker Field.
Madera, who won the 13-year-old state championship last year, is the host team and opens play Friday at 7 p.m. against District 6 champions Lompoc.
Mel Parker Field will be host to 12 games Friday, Saturday and Sunday with additional games Monday and Tuesday. First pitch is at 10 a.m. over the weekend.
A win Friday night for the Madera 14-year-olds sends them to a 7 p.m. game on Saturday. A loss gives them a 1 p.m. game Sunday in the double-elimination tournament.
The Madera 15-year-old All-Stars will open its Central California Babe Ruth State Tournament Saturday at 10 a.m. in Lompoc against Selma, the District 3 runners-up.
A win over Selma sends Madera to a 4 p.m. game Sunday, while a loss sends them to a 10 a.m. game Sunday.
Meanwhile, the 13-year-old All-Stars will begin play in the state tournament Saturday against District 1 champion Selma at 4 p.m. in Santa Maria
A Saturday win sends Madera to a 7 p.m. game Sunday while a loss has them playing at 1 p.m.
