Madera's Mia Alvarez heads the ball in the middle of the field during the Coyotes' loss Friday night.
The Madera Coyotes girls soccer team were upended by the Bullard-Fresno Knights, 6-1, in a County/Metro Athletic Conference match after allowing six unanswered goals at Lee DaSilva Field in Memorial Stadium.
“I thought we gave it our all,” Madera head coach Cameron Hill said. “Especially in the first half because I thought we played well. We were a little unfortunate to give up the first goal and I think the cascade came after that, but they tried and battled. It just wasn’t our night.”
After going up early in Friday's match, the Coyotes couldn't cope with the Knights’ attacking duo Alyssa Renovato and Krysten Vasquez who combined for five of the six goals.
The Coyotes only goal came from Mia Alvarez early in the game.
Although she contributed a single goal, her presence on the pitch couldn't be overstated.
Alvarez did her best to corral the Knights offense — clearing balls, marking opponents and motivating her team — however the Knights were too much to handle.
Renovato got the Knights off to a flying start with a quick two-goal tally in less than 15 minutes. She took advantage of a swift counterattack and later found herself with room at the top of the box for a comfortable finish and a 2-1 halftime lead.
Bullard came out of the break firing on all cylinders. Vasquez shot the ball on goal and it to bounced into the goal for Bullard’s second goal of the second half for a 4-1 lead.
The Coyotes fought until the end even though they couldn't create enough chances to win the game.
Bullard on the other hand, rounded off two more goals to make it four in the second half and six total in the game.
