As it is barbecue season, the beef industry is moving hundreds of tons of cattle to market.

On Monday, Producers Livestock will hold its second spring feeder livestock sale at its auction yard, 1022 S. Pine St.

While the final count has yet to be determined, auction employees expect to offer about 1,000 head at auction, said Jackie Silva business manager for the sale yard.

“We will have young calves (just weaned), yearling calves and Hawaiian calves,” for sale, Silva said.

The calves average about 500 pounds each, the yearlings about 900 pounds and the Hawaiian calves between 550 and 600 pounds, she said.

The cattle are brought in through a gate to the left of the arena and after the auction they are led back to the feedlot through a chute on the right, according to cowboy Clift Calhoun.

They are expecting a lot of local consignors and buyers, Silva said.

A special complementary pre-sale luncheon prepared by the Fresno State Agriculture Department will be served at 11:30 a.m. and the sale begins at 1 p.m.

The sale yard has livestock sales nearly every week, and the final Spring Feeder sale of the year is at 1 p.m. on June 19. For information call 674-4674.
