Man faces attempted murder charges

A Madera man has been arraigned and is due to return to court next week on suspicion of stabbing a teenage girl in front of her mother.

In the Madera County Superior Court, Juan Angeles Carrillo, 24, was ordered in a video arraignment by Madera County Judge Ernest LiCalsi to return for a pre-preliminary hearing on Monday, and a preliminary hearing on Dec. 2. His orders were read back to him through a Spanish translator.

Carrillo, a laborer, was arrested Sunday following a dispute with his estranged girlfriend, in which he reportedly broke into her home.

“Police were dispatched to the 600 block of D Street,” said Madera Police Sgt. Thomas Burns. “When they arrived, they found a 14-year-old girl with a stab wound to her neck.”

According to Burns, Carrillo had entered the home, brandishing a knife, intent on leaving with the mother.

“He said she told him to leave,” Burns said. “And he said: ‘if I’m going to leave, you’re coming with me.’”

It was at this point that Carrillo reportedly grabbed the woman’s daughter, and stabbed her in the neck. A male roommate then intervened, Burns stated, and Carrillo fled the house.

Carrillo was later arrested by Madera Police at his home in the 100 block of East Adell Street. The victim was taken to Madera Community Hospital, and was transferred to Valley Children’s Hospital, where she was later released.

Carrillo is currently in Madera County Jail, and faces charges of attempted murder, burglary, and child endangerment.
