It’s Your Fair! Madera District Fair to begin Sept. 8
It’s almost that time again! The Madera District Fair will begin its four day cycle, Sept. 8 and run through Sept. 11.
Opening day is chock-full of the best amusements in the valley and the biggest entertainment bargains. Seniors and kids ages 12 and younger get in for free! Advanced purchase of carnival coupons are $20 until Sept. 7, and can be redeemed for an unlimited ride wristband or a sheet of 30 ride tickets good for any day of the fair. Gates open Thursday and Friday at 5 p.m. and close each night at 11 p.m. Gates open at 3 p.m. on the weekend.
Again this year, the hometown fair is bringing in big-name talent every night to its concert series sponsored by Table Mountain and Tecate Lite. Advanced tickets for reserve seating are on sale now at the fair office, by phone at (866) 973-9610 or (559) 674-8511 and on its website at maderafair.com.
Free festival seating is available for all shows.
Thursday night, fair-goers can rock out to 38 Special and its signature brand of Southern Rock. Playing in more than 100 cities each year, they entertain thousands with their explosive power of their performance on stage. Enjoy tunes from the band’s latest album “Live from Texas,” which includes original hits and covers of old favorites. Reserve seats are $20 and fair office hours are weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
On Friday night, country superstars Montgomery Gentry make their Madera debut. This duo has secured a place in musical history with a unique blend of country, southern rock and Everly Brothers-like harmonies.
Their stage presence is combined with relatable lyrics. Montgomery Gentry’s latest album release is “Folks Like Us.”
Bret Michaels, the multi-platinum global superstar, will play the fair on Saturday night. Rising to fame as the front man of Poison, one of rock’s most iconic and enduring bands, he helped define the rock-n-roll scene on the Sunset Strip. His solo career has turned his passion for music into a multi-faceted brand with multiple solo albums.
Bringing his “The Party Starts Now Tour,” to the fair, his favorite hits include “Girls on Bars,” and “Get Undone.”
Reserved seating is $25 but does not include fair admission.
Closing out the fair on Sunday night is “Calibre 50,” from Mazatlan, Sinaloa, a charting, award-winning quartet that made its full-length album debut with Renovar o Morir on Disa Records in 2010. Their provocative name (like an armor piercing bullet) was chosen as a symbol for their music. Their performance penetrates geographical regions with shows in Mexico, throughout Latin America and the United States. They include singles “Callejero y Mujeriego,” “Culiacán vs. Mazatlán,” and “El Tierno Se Fue.” Reserved seating at $20 does not include fair admission. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
