Woman convicted of assault and theft

A Coarsegold woman is awaiting her sentencing after being found guilty in court of two strike offenses.

Rachel Nickole James was convicted Thursday of assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats, as well as a misdemeanor petty theft, according to Madera County District Attorney David A. Linn.

The incident for which she was convicted occurred Dec. 7, at the Chevron station on State Route 41 and Road 417 near Indian Lakes.

“These convictions are both ‘strike offenses’ under the California Legislative Three Strike sentencing scheme,” Linn said.

Bass Lake Court Deputy District Attorney Brooke Bergman prosecuted the case.

“This is an example of our mountain office helping to serve and protect all of the people of Madera County,” Linn said.

James is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 21 for sentencing by Madera County Judge Mitchell Rigby.
