Madera ace Johnny Mendrin allowed just 15 earned runs to cross the plate in 62 1/3 innings pitched while recording a 1.68 earned run average. He was named The Madera Tribune’s Pitcher of the Year. (Wendy Alexander)

Ruben Sanchez Sr. 2B-P Madera South
Stats: .386 BA, 23 R, 34 H, 5 2B All-League: 1st team, All- County/Metro Athletic Conference
Just coming back from where his junior season ended would have put Sanchez on the list as the Comeback Player of the Year. However, to do what he did makes it even better. Sanchez broke his leg early in his junior season. He worked his way back this season to lead the Stallions in batting average, runs scored and hits. He was solid at second base. Sanchez was on base almost half the time (.481 on base percentage) with 12 walks and four hit by pitches. He also stole nine bases in 10 attempts. He was 2-5 in eight games started with two saves. He also struck out 50 batters in 44 1/3 innings pitched. This is Sanchez’s first appearance on the All-Madera Tribune team. Pitcher of the year
Johnny Mendrin Sr. P-2B Madera
Stats: .239 BA, 22 R, 6-3, 1.68 ERA, 61 1/3 IP, 43 K All-League: 1st team, All-CMAC
Mendrin was the final link to the Madera Coyotes baseball team’s Valley Championship in 2013. He used his experience on the mound and became the team’s ace. He tossed a team-best 62 1/3 innings. Mendrin allowed less than a hit an inning (57) and walked just 14 batters. Mendrin was also solid in the middle of the Coyote batting order and at second base. Mendrin is now a three-time member of the All-Madera Tribune baseball team. He was also the winning pitcher of the City/County All-Star baseball game. The team
Josh Conigliaro Jr. C Madera South
Stats: .264 BA, 23 H. All-League: 2nd team, All-CMAC
Conigliaro caught almost every inning for the Stallions. He was a rock behind the plate despite being one of the smallest players on the team. He earned respect from other teams for the way he played and how he played the game. He could be found at the top of the line up doing the little things to help the team. He also led the team with 14 walks and was third on the team with a .366 on base percentage. He also stole five bases. This is Conigliaro’s second All-Tribune selection. Caleb Bertoncini Soph. 1B Madera South
Stats: .267 BA, 11 RBI, 4 2B
Although just a sophomore, Bertoncini has plenty of experience. He started most games as a freshman and played in all 29 games his sophomore season. He was a fixture in the middle of the lineup, ranking third on the team with 11 RBIs and doubles with four. Michael Sassano Sr. 2B Liberty
Stats: .404 BA, 34 R, 36 H, 5 2B All-League: 1st team, All-North Sequoia League
Sassano batted near the top of the Hawks’ batting lineup for most of the season. He led the team in batting average, hits, runs and doubles while also leading the team in plate appearances and at bats. He was also nine-of-10 in stolen base attempts. Nick Martinez Jr. 3B Madera
Stats: .329 BA, 15 R, 8 2B All-League: Honorable mention, All-CMAC
Martinez came on late to solidify third base for the Coyotes. He batted .329 and recorded a .443 slugging percentage. Eight of his 23 hits went for doubles and he drove in 11 runs to rank second on the team despite 70 at-bats. Oscar Reyes Jr. SS Madera South
Stats: .348 BA, 32 H, 8 2B, 3 3B All-League: 2nd team, All-CMAC
Reyes had a breakout season and started every game at shortstop for the Stallions. He was second on the team in batting average, runs and hits. He led the team with eight doubles and three triples while leading the team with a .500 slugging percentage. Adam Gomez Sr. OF Madera South
Stats: .281 BA, 25 H, 16 R, 19 RBI, 3 HR
Gomez led all three Madera schools with three home runs. He also tied for the Madera school lead with 19 RBIs. Not only that, Gomez was a solid centerfielder, starting every game for the Stallions and batting in either the No. 3 or 4 spot in the lineup. Isaac Rivera Sr. OF Madera
Stats: .351 BA, 34 H, 7 2B, 3 3B, 14 RBI, 16 R All-League: 1st team, All-CMAC
Rivera has been a fixture in centerfield since he became a varsity Coyote. He led the team in batting average, hits, doubles and RBIs. He was also second in runs and on base percentage while leading the team in slugging percentage. Many coaches in the CMAC are going to be glad he won’t be manning centerfield anymore because of how he took many hits away. He is a three-time All-Madera Tribune team member. Anthony Marmolejo Sr. OF Madera
Stats: .326 BA, 31 H, 5 2B, 11 RBI, 19 R All-League: 2nd team, All-CMAC
Like Rivera, Marmolejo has been a fixture in the Coyotes lineup since he became a varsity player. He was second on the team in batting average, hits, doubles, RBIs. He led the team with 16 walks and had a .423 on base percentage. Marmolejo also was an All-Madera Tribune team member last season. Caleb Wiens Sr. OF Liberty
Stats: .362 BA, 29 H, 15 RBI, 4 2B, 4 3B All-League: 2nd team, All-NSL
Playing for a team that didn’t hit a home run, Wiens led the team with four triples to go with four doubles while batting .362 and starting most games in right field. He led the team with a .512 slugging percentage. Shawn Williams Sr. OF Liberty
Stats: .395 Ba, 21 R, 32 H, 12 RBI, 4 2B, 10 SB All-League: 2nd team, All-CMAC
With Williams and Sassano at the top of the Hawks line up, it was easy for the rest of the team to drive in runs. Williams was second to Sassano in batting average, runs and hits. He also tied for second with four doubles and led the team with 10 stolen bases while being a solid centerfielder. Jiovanni Saavedra Jr. P Madera South
Stats: 4-4, 1.83 ERA, 49 K, 57 1/3 IP All-League: 2nd team, All-CMAC
Saavedra became the ace of the Stallions staff while leading the team in ERA. He also limited the other team’s running game. He didn’t allow a stolen base and picked off eight runners on base.
Wyatt Harpain Soph. P Liberty
Stats: 4-2, 3.12 ERA, 41 K, 49 1/3 IP All-League: 2nd team, All-NSL
Harpain established himself as the Hawks’ ace. He led the team in ERA while winning four games in eight stats. He also had two saves. With Brixton Gomes, the Hawks are settled at pitcher in the top two spots in the rotation for the next two seasons. Charles Gray Sr. P Madera
Stats: 3-2, 1.95 ERA, 35 K, 53 2/3 IP All-League: 2nd team, All-CMAC
Gray became the Coyotes’ No. 2 pitcher and was a definite ace No. 2 behind Mendrin. The pair allowed a combined 3.64 ERA in two games. He started nine games while also coming in relief in seven others. Nate Samarin 1B Fr. Liberty
Stats: .316 BA, 25 H, 19 RBI All-League: 2nd team, All-CMAC
Samarin made quite an impact as a sophomore. Playing first base and designated hitter for the Hawks, Samarin batted in the middle of the Hawks’ order. He was one of four Coyotes to bat more than .300. He also led the team with 19 RBIs while stealing six bases. Chris Chapa OF Sr. Madera
Stats: .320 BA, 24 H, 5 2B, 11 RBI All-League: Honorable mention, All-CMAC
Chapa came out late for the Coyotes because of wrestling. The Madera High School Senior Athlete of the Year, Chapa came up with some clutch hits for the Coyotes, especially going the other way. He tied for second on the team in RBIs, and doubles and was third on the team in hits.
